It's always encouraging to find people in the industry who see the same challenges you do, especially when they have experience solving them.
That's how we felt reading a recent Insurance Nerds interview with Sproutr's Founder and CEO JoAnne Artesani and Head of Insurance Jeff Breault.
Their approach to designing insurance programs closely aligns with what we discuss at Draivn when developing MGA solutions.
JoAnne makes a point we strongly agree with: earning carrier capacity takes a sound underwriting strategy, actuarial evidence, and the ability to manage a program effectively. That requires underwriting, pricing, product design, and operations to work together.
But what particularly caught our attention was Jeff's experience in commercial trucking.
Before joining Sproutr, Jeff helped develop a long-haul trucking insurance program that used telematics to price policies based on actual mileage and adjust rates according to driver behavior.
This approach helped secure carrier support in a challenging insurance segment. And it extended beyond underwriting: the program also needed automated premium recalculations, policyholder notifications, and compliant endorsements.
It's a great real-life example of how data can help MGAs build credible programs and give capacity partners confidence in how the risk is selected, priced, and managed.
Why this resonates with us
We've recently explored these same challenges in a series of articles for MGAs on our blog.
We believe, for MGAs, selecting risks that fit their underwriting strategy is just the beginning. They also need to understand how those risks change over time and demonstrate to capacity partners that their strategy is working.
And we’re building Draivn to support this – turn fleet telematics into validated, insurance-ready risk exposure that underwriting, pricing, product, and operations teams can all work with. They can see how fleets actually operate, identify changes, and make decisions based on the same evidence. Then MGAs can use that evidence to show capacity partners how risks are selected and managed throughout the policy term.
That means both internal teams and external partners working from a single source of truth.
It's great to see industry professionals bringing this kind of thinking and practical experience to insurance program development. We keep following their progress and wish them every success.
